Bibliography

Author:  David Colbert

Title: The Magical World of Harry Potter

ISBN number: 0-141-31738-8

Abstract: This is as it says in the sub title and Treasury of Myths, Legends and Fascinating Facts. David Colbert in his second edition of this books compiles what can only be described as an encyclopaedia of all the myths from Irish, Roman, Greek Egyptian methodology which JK Rowling integrates into her thus far six book series (as well as her two comic relief books too).  Colbert tells us who the first British Wizards were, why Trolls stink, what makes the Veela angry which of the famous witches and wizards are real, which his readers can all research ourselves using his impeccably documented bibliography. Colbert also speculates on issues like why Dumbledore won't fight Voldemort? Where Magic comes from and what the models for the Order of the Phoenix are?

Colbert himself is a head writer of the hit TV show  Who Wants to be a Millionaire? and a graduate of Brown University where he studied anthropology and mythology but he says in the book he spent most of his time reading randomly in the library.  here he's put his knowledge to good use complying all this info on our favourite wizards and well as complying a similar book on the Lord of the Rings.

A truly excellent book for anyone wishing to read deeper into the series.

Author: Roger Highfield

Title: The Science of Harry Potter

ISBN number: 0-7553-1151-5

Abstract:  In this Book Roger Highfield, who among other things was the first person to bounce a neutron off a soap bubble, aims in this text to take the magical happenings researched and dreamt up by Jk Rowling and uses the world of science to explain 'how magic works.'

Highfield takes us through the many possible ways Harry could get his broom off the air using real experiments, exploring how it would be possible to defy gravity explaining the many ways Humans and animals have managed the problem coming up with a solutions to as I just mentioned the quest for antigravity, how magnets could be used in levitation to many, many other issues like how through genetics we could make a fluffy like dog to how our brain can actually stretch or perception of what we see backwards in time to 1/20th of a second, so no need for the Impedimenta jinx then so.:)

Its an awe-inspiringly excellent book for the Harry Potter fan who like myself has even the most passing interest in science.  It makes the very complex world of Physics, Chemistry and Biology very accessible and even more surprising interesting.

Title: So you think you know Harry potter?

ISBN number: 0-3408-6609-8

Abstract:  A quite nice wee quiz book which as it was published on 2002, contains questions on The philosopher's Stone to the Goblet of Fire.  It breaks down the questions into three sections, easy medium and hard which seem to be, generally speaking quite apt.  A great book if you've more than one Harry potter fan in the family  (Sadly on I'm the only one in mine), to pit your knowledge against one another. In all over 1000 books so good value for money.
